Mission

The organization will promote the need for early detection, physical exercise, nutrition information and counseling in an effort to offset the impact of a cancer diagnosis and the negative effects of treatment. The Breast of Texas will provide encouragement to those living with the disease of cancer, honor the memory of those who are deceased and empower all people regardless of age, race or gender to live life fully after their diagnosis. This will be accomplished through the national and international amateur sports competition of Dragon Boat Racing. The Breast of Texas Dragon Boat Team supports the beneficial effects of physical activity in cancer survivorship through research and provides a model for our community by demonstrating courage, determination and team cooperation. Scientific research discovered that women who were treated for breast cancer did not increase their risk level of lymphedema from repetitive upper body exercise. Clinical trials have also suggested that cancer patients may benefit from physical exercise both during and after treatment. The Breast of Texas will be operated exclusively for charitable purposes which consist of the aforesaid support, education, awareness and sports participation and will include, if necessary, the distribution of funds. The Breast of Texas Dragon Boat Team will continue to advance the sport of dragon boating as well as participation in other oar and paddle sports.
