The National Kidney Foundation

The NKF is a charitable organisation that provides dialysis treatment and rehabilitative care to kidney failure patients at affordable, subsidised rates.
We also work hand-in-hand with community partners towards the prevention of kidney disease to help every Singaporean to be more aware of their kidney health and take proactive steps to care for their kidneys.
Singapore has one of the highest rates of kidney failure in the world. Every 5 hours, one person is diagnosed with kidney failure.Diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure) are the two leading causes of kidney failure. More than 60% of new kidney failure cases are caused by diabetes. The rising trend is worrying as we are facing an ageing population and increasing rates of obesity and these two chronic diseases.Other causes of ESRD include:
Inflammatory diseases (e.g. glomerulonephritis)
Blockage of urinary collecting system (e.g. kidney stones)
Chronic infections (e.g. pyelonephritis)
Rare genetic disorders (e.g. polycystic kidney disease)
Our philosophy is to care for our patients holistically, aiming to help patients maintain a reasonable quality of life. The NKF also provides health-screening and public education services to raise the community’s awareness on the importance of renal disease prevention.
