Mission
Visual Aid encourages artists with life-threatening illnesses to continue their creative work. The organization was founded by a group of artists, collectors, and art dealers to help preserve, present, and promote the work of professional artists from diverse backgrounds with life-threatening illnesses. For 25 years, Visual Aid has been an integral part of San Francisco’s passionate social activism in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Today, the organization's focus is on selected curatorial projects and preserving artists' legacies through the Visual Aid Archives Project.
