Mission

The Fund provides grants to photographers whose work is compassionate — both through documentary photography and in their relationship to the individuals and communities represented in their work. One of our highest priorities is ensuring that the opportunities offered by the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund are accessible to all photographers globally, and that we continue to broaden the reach of the Fund by diversifying the applicants and recipients of our grants. The Smith Fund aims to center photography that is above all else concerned, empathetic, humanistic, and socially conscious, and to highlight and support photographers who uphold the highest standard of integrity and ethical conduct throughout their wider practice.
